Chile students stage mass protest for education

Tens of thousands of students and teachers have marched in the Chilean captial,Santiago. They demanded educational reform. The protesters want the central government to take full control of education and increase spending on public schools. They also want increased funding for universities, including scholarships rather than loans for poorer students, and an end to profit in education.
The government has promised some reforms, but the students thought it's not enough .It can not function well.At the end of march, some students were responded with tear gas and water canon.
As far as I'm concerned,The government should be responsible for their people.Especially the students,They are the hope for the country,They are the main force to construct country. So ,I hope this demonstration can be functional. The government can reform and put forward new policies which is good for the students.

Texas jails abolish last meals after uneaten banquet
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-15034970
Prison officials in the US state of Texas have abolished the traditional last meal request for inmates who are facing execution.
The move came after a prisoner requested a huge meal then did not eat any of it, saying he was not hungry.
Most US states have a last meal tradition but differ in its implementation. Some have a menu, others, like Florida, impose a cost restriction.
    Some requests have been unusual.
In 2007, Philip Workman asked for his vegetarian pizza to be given to a homeless person. The request was denied.
James Edward Smith's request for "a lump of dirt" in 1990 was also turned down.
In 2000, Odell Barnes asked for "justice, equality and world peace".

The explosion could hardly be heard a street away ,but its shock wave will spread across the country . Burhanuddin Rabbani’s dead wiil make the process of trying to negotiate peace far harder to manage.

2 years in prison for government worker in kickback scheme

A 45-year-old General Services Administration employee was sentenced Monday to more than two years in prison for accepting kickbacks from government contractors.

Prosecutors said that Minor collected about $118,000 in kickback payments on work he awarded companies between 2007 and 2010 when he was a GSA customer service manager.

Besides sending Minor to prison, U.S. District Judge Ricardo M. Urbina also ordered the Upper Marlboro man to pay $118,000 in restitution to the government.

“Why did you keep on taking this money over and over and over again,” Urbina asked Minor.
    “Stupidity, your honor,” Minor replied.
